How do they make these log cabins cost a fraction of site-built log cabins?

Classic Log Cabins of the Old West manufactures their cabins in a factory facility. Their carpenters and tradesmen work every day in spite of rain or cold weather. They do not have to travel to another job site to start work, their productivity starts when they get to the factory. Tools and equipment are ready to use first thing at the start of the shift. No workers have to wait for the tool bin to arrive or to be unlocked. Most importantly labor saving equipment like overhead cranes, pneumatic tools and dust collection equipment can be installed and used every day with no setup times. Templates and jigs are devised to greatly reduce construction time to a minimum. All these ideas and more combine to deliver a high quality product at a fraction of the cost.

Henry Ford did not invent the automobile, he invented the processes to manufacture it on an assembly line. This put the automobile in the reach of every family. Classic Log Cabins has borrowed from Mr. Ford's experience and applied his ideas to the construction of real log cabins.

How can they make these log cabins in a fraction of the time it takes to build a site-built log cabin?

The factory for Classic Log Cabins constructs cabins in rain or shine. No down time for bad weather. The factory allows them to devise methods to speed construction that would not be cost effective used in a site-built setting. They are not limited by daylight or darkness either. They can work round the clock if need be. We strive to deliver your Classic Log Cabin in three months from the day you put down a deposit. Of course that varies with the amount of work our factories have at the current time. We will do everything in our power to deliver on the date that we give you.

Why doesn't everybody build homes like this?

We can't speak for other people but the reason we took so long to develop our product is that we had to find new materials that would facilitate the construction and allow us to pick up a cabin and deliver it unbroken to the installation site. It took us a while to devise ways construct the modules to be sturdy and yet attractive to live in. We're still working on it too. We are developing ways to build longer modules with more features.

Do I have to get a county building permit for a Classic Log Cabin?

Classic Log Cabins has a certified module home manufacturer in the state of Arizona. Our building plans are pre-certified by the state. The local county must issue a permit to construct a foundation and they will inspect it however the time involved is greatly reduced, and the fees they charge are much less. The counties work in conjunction with the state on installation of module homes.

Will you handle everything for the construction of my cabin?

Yes! All the required services are available. Remember, you're buying a complete home from Classic Log Cabins and we can a will provide everything you need to setup your cabin. We will talk with your Home Owner's Association, the city or county agencies (as appropriate) and get all the required permits, arrange for the foundation, electrical and sewer hookups, grading and site prep for delivery. We will then have the home delivered and installed. The fees for these services will be discussed prior to delivery and you can choose what you want to do and what you want the dealer to do.

Do I have to have my own lot?

Well, we have to have someplace to put your Classic Log Cabin, however you can order it before you have your lot. We have relationships with Realtors® in your area and they can provide you with the latest list of available properties for sale within their MLS. In some cases a Realtors® office is co-located with our Classic Log Cabins sales office. They can also provide you with information about utility hookup fees (impact fees), if any, that may be encountered when you buy a particular lot.

How do I get the site prepared?

Your dealer will work with you to get your utilities installed, your site excavated (if need be), and your foundation installed before the delivery of your Classic Log Cabin. They have relationships with various contractors in your area that they've had experience with that they can recommend. They will provide you with a list of people that can do the work.

How well insulated is a Classic Log Cabin?

A standard eight inch log has a base R value of 16, however when you consider the thermal mass property of the wood material, you arrive at a much higher number. Remember that cold is the absence of heat. A log wall absorbs heat and stays heated even after the heat source is gone. Then it radiates that heat back into the room. (Fiberglass insulation doesn't do that very well) When our eight inch log home is compared to a frame home with fiberglass insulation, our log home has the equivalent of R-25 in the walls!

In addition to R-25 in the walls, a Classic Log Cabin has more than R-30 in the floors and roofs! The roofs and floors are made with structural insulated panels (SIP). Our SIPs have eight inches of foam which give us the R-30. The roofs are then covered with shingles on the outside and 1x6 tongue and grove knotty pine on the ceiling side. All in all the Classic Log Cabins are very well insulated, more than most site built homes!

What kind of logs do you use?

We use only graded, high quality, pine logs in our cabins. Our logs come from Canada, Idaho and/or Utah, and we use "hand-drawn" eight-inch logs. Typically the logs are "dead and standing" in the forest when they are cut. This gives them a chance to dry out before they are used.

Can I buy just enough so I can finish the home myself?

Classic Log Cabin Dealers have two ways to sell log cabins. We can sell our modular cabins or we can sell site-built/custom log cabins. Through our association with The Log Company of Payson, AZ we can sell everything from log packages to shell packages to finished homes. These packages are built on your site like a typical log cabin. If you have a site that is too remote to get to with a big truck and a crane then may be the site built cabin is the answer for you!

Can you provide garages and outbuildings?

We can build any structures that are attached to your modular cabin, however because we try to keep our factory focused on building cabins we have partners who can build garages and storage sheds attached or not on your site. Garages are typically built on a cement slab and our cabins are not. Our cabins are built on a stem wall foundation including a two foot crawl space under the cabin. Because of that it is best to build your garage on site, and that is what our contractor partners do.

Do all the models have a loft?
Yes, currently we build just two models and they both have a loft.

Can you bring a cabin to where my lot is?

Probably. We are licensed to deliver and setup cabins anywhere in the state of Arizona. If you can get a truck to your lot then we can probably get a cabin there. If it's really remote then a sky-crane is a possibility.

Outside of Arizona is also possible. We would need to contact your local jurisdiction to see what their requirements are for modular homes in your state.
